KARACHI: A woman in Karachi approached police against her husband accusing him of lying about his marital status to marry her and stealing her money, ARY News reported on Wednesday.

The woman told media that she married the accused Aftab Ahmed in September 1, 2016 but she later found out that her husband has not only been married three times before but has also lied about his income and job.

The woman, a resident of Orangi Town, also claimed that Aftab Ahmed also stole all the money and property her parents paid in dowry.

“He not only stole about 30 to 40 hundred thousand rupees worth of property but also sold our house on pretext of buying a new one,” the woman told media “He is now threatening us with dire consequences, if we demand our money back.”

She added that her parents met Aftab through a middleman (rishta aunty); the accused then claimed to be working in Land Department and being single.

The police have reportedly found at least three different copies of marriage certificates from Aftab’s custody.

The case was registered in Orangi Town police station under section 420 of Pakistan Penal Code.
