TOP NEWS

World Hypertension Day is being marked today to aware the people about the dangers of hypertension.

High blood pressure has no clear symptoms and this is the reason why the illness is considered as a “silent killer”. According to several surveys, 1.5 billion people are affected by the disease across the world while 7 million people lose their lives due to high blood pressure each year.

Hypertension is directly linked to the behavior of the human being. The problem is caused due to lack of sleep, tension, anger etc.

In Pakistan, every second person is a patient of blood pressure.

The World Health Organization (WHO) decided to mark May 17 of every year as World Hypertension Day to shed light on the dangers of the disease and how it can be prevented.

Seminars, functions and programs are held today to discuss the disease and to create awareness among the masses about the dangers of having severe tension and high blood pressure.

A walk was organized at Ayub Medical Complex of Abbotabad in which doctors and paramedical staff of the hospital took part. The participants had raised banners regarding the day.

The theme for World Hypertension Day 2014 is "Know your Blood Pressure".
