The announcement was made by Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.

According to an Indian news agency, Badal said that his conscience is not allowing him to attend such an event during such circumstance.

Eleven teams including Pakistan were scheduled to arrive in India for the sixth edition the World Kabaddi Cup, which was scheduled to take place from 14th to 28th November.

He added that the whole state has been enraged over the desecration of the religious scriptures.

Several incidents regarding desecration of the Sikh religious literature were reported after which protests broke out in several cities in the state.
