The purpose of this day is to provide guidelines to the people for the protection from this disease and aware the general public about this disease. On this occasion the Department of Health and Social organizations organizes seminars, walks and functions. The main reason of death amongst children worldwide is the disease of pneumonia; due to this disease every year around two million children lose their lives.
The majority of victims are the children aged less than two years. Globally this day is observed to aware people regarding the most deadly disease for children in the world.

World Pneumonia Day helps to bring this health crisis to the public’s attention and encourages policy makers and grassroots organizers alike to combat the disease. In spite of the massive death toll of this disease, affordable treatment and prevention options exist. There are effective vaccines against the two most common causes of deadly pneumonia, Haemophilus influenzae type B and Streptococcus pneumoniae.
