World T20: Sri Lanka beats S.Africa by five runs

CHITTAGONG: Sri Lanka defeated South Africa by five runs in their Super 10 match of the 2014 World T20 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium here in Chittagong on Saturday, ARY News reports.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first.

Batting first, Sri Lanka made 165/7 in their 20 overs. Opener Kusal Parera scored 61 runs from 40 balls whereas Angelo Mathews made 43 runs for the team. Kumar Sangakkara contributed 14 runs for Sri Lanka.

Imran Tahir was the stand out bowler for the South Africans in the match as he took three wickets whereas pacers Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel took two wickets each.

In reply, the Proteas fell five runs short as they made 160/8 in their 20 overs. Jean Paul Duminy was the top scorer for the team with 39 runs from 30 balls whereas opener Quinton de Kock scored 25 runs from 18 balls. Captain AB de Villiers made 24 runs for the side and Hashim Amla made 23 runs for the Proteas.

Sachitra Senanayake two wickets in the innings whereas Nuwan Kulasekara, Ajantha Mendis, Angelo Mathews and Lasith all dismissed one batsman each.

Kusal Parera of Sri Lanka was named the Player of the Match for his innings.
