World T20: West Indies demolish Australia in a thriller

TOP NEWS

DHAKA: In another nerve-wracking game between the top two T20 sides, West Indies crushed Australia in a thriller, bagging victory in the final over while chasing down a decent total of 179, ARY News reported Friday.

Australia had posted an impressive score of 179 in its first innings. Once again, sensational Glenn Maxwell scored 22-ball 45 runs, followed by 35 by Brad Hodge. Marlon Samuels, Sunil Narine and Darren Sammy (skipper) bagged two wickets each.

In reply, WI batsmen began their innings with a flying start, powered by Chris Gayle who scored 53 off 35 balls, hitting two sixes and six fours. Brief partnerships by WI batsmen kept them alive in the game.

It was sensational finish in the end by Captain Darren Sammy, who brought the game till the last over with Dwayne Bravo at the other end, and smashed two consecutive sixes in the final over of James Faulker when 12 runs were required.

"I'd take 178, but we didn't bat particularly well" says George Bailey at the post-match talk. "We lost too many wickets in the middle. You gotta take the good with the bat, we have some guys in great form and the West Indies bowled really well. You hope one goes to hand and the challenge for both teams was that short boundary. It was going to be difficult for the guy bowling from the end where that winds up on the on side."

Darren Sammy, the Man of the Match, said "We have not won the tournament, its just a game against Australia but we were pumped up for this." They played well and a couple of our bowlers bowled well. We backed ourselves to score 180-odd. Chris and Smith set us up and we are really pumped up for the win, he praised.
