The need of an expert having broad understanding of legal tactics prompted the government to replace Defense Minister Khawaja Asif in TORs committee. The fiery speaker was replaced by Law Minister Zahid Hamid.
Sources said the government inducted Hamid to counter Aitzaz Ahsan of Pakistan Peoples Party. Ahsan happens to be a well known lawyer and has keenly been into the process of TORs drafting.
The committee will comprise of Law Minister Zahid Hamid, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Railways Minister Saad Rafique, Housing and Works Minister Akram Khan Durrani, Information Technology Minister Anusha Rehman, Ports and Shipping Minister Hasil Khan Bizenjo, Pakistan People’s Party Senator Aitzaz Ahsan, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf MNA Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Pakistan Muslim League – Quaid MNA Basheer Cheema, Jamaat-e-Islami MNA Sahibzada Tariqullah, Muttahida Qaumi Movement Senator Barrister Saif and Awami National Party Senator Ilyas Bilour.
On May 24, Speaker of the National Assembly (NA) Sardar Ayaz Sadiq had notified the 12-member parliamentary committee to decide the terms of reference (TORs) for the judicial probe of Panama Papers.
