European Union hails Zarb-e-Azb against militants

Matters relating to regional security situation came under discussion during the meeting.

Franz-Michael Mellbin during the meeting, appreciated successes of Operation Zarb-e-Azb and efforts of Pakistan for regional stability.

Zarb-e-Azb does seem to have had a positive impact on militant attacks, which have been down overall.

Pakistan’s military in June last year launched a ground and air blitz against militant groups in North Waziristan tribal area, forcing millions of civilians to leave their homes and settle in other districts.

A military offensive against Taliban and Al-Qaeda hideouts in the northwest has been accompanied by what the authorities have called “intelligence-led” operations in cities around the country.
