Ex-CJP Syed Sajjad Ali Shah's funeral prayers offered

KARACHI: The funeral prayers of former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Syed Sajjad Ali Shah were offered on Wednesday in Karachi, ARY News reported.

Chief Justice of Sindh High Court (SHC), other judges, lawyers and members of the civil society were present in the last rites which were held in Gizri area of the provincial capital.

Syed Sajjad Ali Shah, who was admitted at a hospital of Karachi and was being treated for severe chest infection,  passed away  on Tuesday.

Shah was born on 17th February 1933 in Karachi. He served as the chief justice of Sindh High Court from December 1989 till November 1990.

Later, he elevated to the Supreme Court of Pakistan and become the Chief Justice of the apex court from June 1994 to December 1997.

An ignominious incident of the history of Pakistan’s judiciary was happened during the tenure of Chief Justice Syed Sajjad Ali Shah, when workers and leaders of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) attacked the Supreme Court of Pakistan on November 27, 1997, and forced the CJP to adjourn the contempt of court case against their party leader and incumbent prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
