KARACHI: Veteran television and radio artist Qazi Wajid breathed his last here on Sunday.
The actor, 87, was one of the pioneers of the radio industry. After remaining associated with the radio for 25 years, he resigned and started off his career as TV actor.
He was admitted to a hospital in the metropolis owing to his ill-health late last night.
Born in Lahore on May 26 in 1930, Qazi Wajid featured in dozens of of drama serials and films and rose to fame because of his unique artistic skills.
He starred in television serials, including Aaghan Terrha, Tanhaiyan, Dhoop Kinare, Khuda Ki Basti, and Pal Do Pal alongside other renowned artists.
The actor was also honoured with a Pride of Performance Award in 1988 by the Government of Pakistan.
Reacting to his death, renowned actor Javed Sheikh said Wajid possessed a talent unmatched by any other artist in show-business.
Recalling his fond memories, he said whenever he met with Qazi Wajid, the latter always praised his way of dressing.
“I always saw smile on his face. I have never seen an actor so warm and loving like him,” he said.
