Famed Urdu novelist Mazhar Kaleem dies aged 75

MULTAN: Renowned Urdu novelist Mazhar Kaleem, who shot to fame with his spy novels under the ‘Imran Series,’ passed away here today after protracted illness. 

Kaleem penned over five hundred books under the Imran Series, including both mystery long and short novels. He also wrote short stories for children.

He also rendered his services as anchorperson of a Saraiki radio talk show from Radio Multan, “Jamhoor-de-Awaz”. He was a lawyer and served as senior vice-president of Multan Bar Council.

Mazhar Kaleem acquired fame through writing about Ibn-e-Safi’s famous character Ali Imran in a series of novels. His first novel Makazonka was published in the late 1960s.

His other popular works include Sabolate Aager, Shogi Pama, Double White, Kaya Palat, Shalmaak, Bagop, Khamoash Cheikhein, Calendar Killer, Ganja Bhikari, Black Prince, Aika Baan and Hara Kari.

His funeral prayers will be offered today at 1:30 pm at Abdali Mosque in Multan.
