KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan’s (MQM-P) convener Farooq Sattar on Saturday asked Rabita Committee (coordination committee) to choose mutually agreed four new names for the Senate elections other than the names of the candidates submitted by both the sides earlier.
Talking to media outside his house in PIB Colony following a meeting with the coordination committee members, Farooq Sattar said during the meeting with Kunwar Naveed Jamil, Amir Khan, Khalid Maqbool and Waseem Akhtar they had made consensus on the decision of February 7 according to which four new candidates will be chosen.
“We will drop the names of controversial members including Farough Naseem, Ameenul Haq, Shabbir Qaimkhani, Amir Khan and Kamran Tessori and table four fresh names to ensure unity among our ranks. And if the matter still remains unresolved than we will withdraw from Senate elections,” he said.

He said the committee members had objected to Tessori’s candidacy and he had agreed to it on the spot but the issues still escalated.
The MQM-P chief said if they still could not find a solution to the problem then he would suggest to forget the Senate polls and save the party.
“It’s not a matter of adamancy from our side. As far as the allegations are leveled on Kamran Tessori, I forwarded his name but he gave me the prerogative on the same day to withdraw his name as and when required,” he said.
He said the pain MQM-P voters were undergoing he was fully aware of it.
Farooq Sattar said division in the party should be stopped at any cost. No matter how much you fight in your house but don’t make the issues of your house public, he added.
Earlier, the coordination committee announced to withdraw the letter sent to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) apprising it that the committee members had the authority to nominate for the upcoming Senate elections, which was deemed by the estranged party chief as breach of party’s code of conducts.
