KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) convener Farooq Sattar on Friday left his house for negotiations with ‘some’ people at an undisclosed location, ARY News reported.

Sources said Farooq Sattar had gone somewhere without informing anybody at home or in the party. They said the MQM-P chief had convened all the party members at 5:00pm at his PIB home for consultation meeting.

“They had to finalise names for Senate elections and decide whether to go to Bahadurabad in the evening or not. All the party members have arrive but Farooq Sattar is nowhere to see,” the sources said.

Later, Farooq Sattar arrived back home after hours of spending at an undisclosed location.

A rift has erupted in the MQM-P party between the convener and the party leaders over nominating Kamran Tessori for the seat of Senate.

Addressing media outside his residence in PIB Colony earlier, Farooq Sattar, who wants Kamran Tessori to be the senator, said the decision was made by consulting his close aides. He said that a system where one was given responsibilities but could not take decisions cannot work anywhere.

He maintained that he was the elected head of the party and had the authority to issue tickets to candidates for elections. He said the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will question him about the party’s candidates for the upcoming Senate elections.

He further said that there should be even greater authority with higher responsibilities. He said that the meeting on Friday evening will ensure that similar internal rifts were solved within the party.

The MQM-P chief warned that government employees do have the right to vote, and he will clarify in the party meeting that such officials cannot be a part of the coordination committee.

Earlier a spokesman for Farooq Sattar had confirmed that a meeting of the coordination committee had been convened at 7 P.M. at the head office in Bahadurabad, where all members of the coordination committee will participate.
