ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi will visit the United States where he is expected to meet the transition team of President-election Donald Trump.
This is the first high profile of an envoy since the US elections on November 8. The visit also comes after a telephonic conversation between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Donald Trump.
Both leaders had a conversation on Nov 30 in which Trump expressed his willingness to address any outstanding issues in Pakistan. He also showed interest in visiting Pakistan on the invitation of the Prime Minister.
Mr. Fatemi will embark on 10-day visit on the weekend, where he will also meet several US lawmakers as well.
Donald Trump takes oath as the US President on Jan 20, but has set a transition team. He has also met and talked with several world leaders to familarise himself.
