Pakistani-American Top Chef contestant Fatima Ali who died earlier this year after after losing a prolonged battle with cancer in New York, has been awarded the James Beard Media Award posthumously.
She won the award for her essay ‘I’m a Chef with Terminal Cancer. This Is What I’m Doing with the Time I Have Left’ written in October 2018 for Bon Appetite magazine while she was being treated for her terminally-ill condition.

The award ceremony will be held on May 6.
Passing away at the young age of 29, Fatima gained popularity, after appearing in US television show the Top Chef in 2017 and won the contest in 2018, the year she was diagnosed with bone cancer.
In November, she had appeared on The Ellen Show to talk about how she was dealing with her terminal cancer diagnosis.
