LAHORE: Pakistan discard Fawad Alam on Tuesday astonished selectors by scoring 19 points in the Yo-Yo Endurance Test at National Cricket Academy Lahore for upcoming Ireland and England tour.

Captain Sarfraz Ahmed scored 17.4 in the same fitness test, whereas 25-year-old Muhammad Rizwan topped with a score of 21; Asad Shafiq with 20 had the second-highest score, while Hasan Ali, Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman — all much younger cricketers than Alam — scored 18 points each.

Fawad Alam impressed with his batting in the domestic circuit, where he scored 570 runs in ten first-class matches at an average of 40.71 and strike rate of 63.12.

Fawad last played for Pakistan in 2015. He played his last Test match in 2009 against New Zealand.

PCB’s selection committee has summoned 25 players including PSL stars Hussain Talat, Asif Ali, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Sahibzada Farhan.

The skills camp kicks off on April 11 and will culminate on April 23.

The team is expected to fly to the UK at the end of this month to take on Kent in a four-day warm-up match before facing the Test debutants Ireland on May 11.
