ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday defended the federal government’s economic policies by saying that the country’s finances resemble that of a looted house, ARY News reported.
Addressing media in the federal capital, the minister maintained that the government, in the long run, wants to revive the country’s economy by working on an two-pronged strategy i.e. bringing back the looted national wealth and in the meantime running the country through loans.
“The country’s economy presents the picture of a looted house, what do you do when some robbers loot all your property, you borrow some money for your day to day expenses while you go after the robbers to get back your looted money, this is what we are doing,” said Chaudhry.
About opposition’s allegation of political revenge, he maintained that the cases against Shehbaz Sharif and other leaders were neither registered by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government nor did it order their arrest.
“We (the government) have not deprived them of their right to protest but they want to create a corruption union which is not possible now,” said the minister.
He maintained that some politicians appointed their whole families into state-run organizations and some laundered taxpayers’ money but when accountability watchdog questions them they term it a “threat to democracy”.
