Panama case: Sharifs failed to vindicate themselves, says Fawad Chaudhry

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry on Friday said that Sharif family had all options to defend themselves in the Panama Papers case but they remained failed to vindicate themselves despite getting a fair trial. 

Speaking to reporters outside the Supreme Court premises he opined that Imran Khan’s struggle for corruption free society will likely to bear fruits.

Claiming Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif got a fair trial, Fawad said the top court heard the case for 134 days which he termed an exemplary trial. “Despite using all resources and availing all options, the Sharif family could not vindicate themselves,” he said.

“Imran Khan and PTI [as political party] have no personal grudge against the Sharif family but the party’s sole struggle is to raise political awareness among the masses and ensure corruption free society,” remarked Fawad.

Fawad said: “Just 60 days of investigation disclosed decades-long wrongdoings by Sharif family including money laundering, concealing of assets and income sources.”

“The situation would have been different if such investigation had been conducted before,” he opined.

He accused the politicians of being corrupt themselves for their backing to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Panama Papers case as what he said: “Such elements do not want a corruption free society.”

Insisting that the Sharif family could not divulge the sources of income, he said the Sharif family has been living beyond known means of income despite reporting losses in their businesses.
