Fazl talks PM and CM Punjab over Rawalpindi Tragedy

ISLAMABAD: Maulana Fazlur Rehman of JUI-F has moved to sort out sectarian tensions heated up after the incdients in Rawalpindi on Youm-e-Ashur, in which at least 10 people were killed, ARY News reported on Saturday.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) leader Fazlur Rehman held telephonic conversations with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif and demanded investigation of Raja Bazaar tragedy in Rawalpindi on Ashura.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif assured the JUI-F leader that action will be taken against the perpetrators of the incident.

Police have registered case of Raja Bazaar incident in Rawalpindi against unknown accused under anti-terrorism act. Curfew has been continued and cellular phone services have been suspended in Rawalpindi as the troops patrolling and aerial surveillance continued in tense garrison city.

The security personnel in Punjab have been ordered to remain at their place of deployment till further orders.

A spokesman of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat has said that the government of Punjab has not handed over the dead bodies of their activists to them after Friday’s incidents in Rawalpindi.

In a party statement, spokesman said that 19 workers of the group have been untraced, while no accused of the incident has been arrested.

A party meeting being held today to set the future line of action, he added.
