Damascus: He’s part of what many fear is a lost generation, and there are thousands more like him.
These Syrian children now live in refugee camp in Iraq.
A UN report released Friday found that more than 70,000
Syrian refugee families do not have a father — and almost 4,000 children are unaccompanied by or separated from both parents.
The UN High Commissioner for Refugees, António Guterres fears for their future.
“Our main objective is to make sure it is not a lost generation and for that we need to bring them to school. Only one third of the refugee children is now having an opportunity to go to school”, U.N high commissioner for refugees, ANTONIO GUTERRES.
Others already feel trapped by a war they left behind.
“Many of them have been dramatically traumatized by violence. They need psycho – social support. And we are not able to provide it at the level that is required” he added.
Millions have fled the violence in Syria, seeking safety in places like Jordan where a bed can be a spot on the ground and where curtains can be a substitute for a wall.
With the past already defined by conflict, the UN hopes this lost generation can find more promise in the future.
