Federal govt, Sindh at loggerheads over appointment of IG police

KARACHI: The Federal Government and Sindh provincial government are seemed to be in a collision course over appointment of inspector general police Sindh, ARY News reported on Monday.

Sources told that the deadlock occurred as both the government wanted their blue-eyed person to be appointment at police chief post.

Federal Government is in favour of senior Punjab police cop Zulfikar Cheema, while Sindh government wants to bring Fayyaz Laghari, who has served as IG police Sindh couple of time before.

It is pertinent to mention here that after the passage of 18^th constitutional amendment, the Federal Government is bound to appoint inspector general police of a province with the consent of provincial government concerned.

The post of IG police Sindh is vacant for last 10 days. Senior Karachi police officer Iqbal Mahmood is currently serving as an acting IGP Sindh.
