Fehmida Mirza represents Asia at CPA meeting in UK

ISLAMABAD:  Federal Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination Dr Fehmida Mirza represented Asia at the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association meeting in London.

The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Executive Committee meeting commenced in London with speakers and members of parliament from CPA’s nine regions including Africa, Asia, Australia, British Islands and Mediterranean, Canada, Caribean, India, Pacific and South-East Asia, according to a statement.

The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association is an international community of around 180 Commonwealth parliaments and legislature working together to deepen the Commonwealth commitment to the highest standard of democratic governance and to identify benchmarks of good governance and human rights.

Lately, Fehmida Mirza had travelled to Brussels to represent Pakistan at the 12th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM). In her address, the minister focused on the importance of cooperation between Asian and European countries to confront mutual challenges and threats.

She suggested that strong International cooperation was a prerequisite to tackle the issues of illicit financial flow and Climate Change under Paris Agreement.

On migration, the minister suggested that the root causes responsible for migration must be addressed and legal migration channels should be opened to avoid any humanitarian crisis.

While stressing upon the importance of connectivity, Fehmida Mirza highlighted the prospects of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
