Female student ran over by point bus in Karachi University

KARACHI: A female student of Karachi University (KU) was killed on Friday after being run over by a university point bus inside the campus.
According to police, the tragic incident occurred around 9:00 am between the Department of Social Work and Dr. Mahmud Husain Library. The student, identified as Aneeqa Saeed, reportedly disembarked from the bus near the Department of Mathematics when the vehicle reversed, fatally crushing her under its rear wheels.
She was immediately shifted to a hospital but succumbed to her injuries on the way.
Police arrested the bus driver; however, he was later released after the victim’s family refused to pursue legal proceedings against him.
Following the incident, students staged a strong protest on the campus, expressing outrage over the negligence of the university administration. They demanded strict action against the bus driver and conductor and called for an inquiry based on CCTV footage.
Vice Chancellor of Karachi University, Dr. Khalid M. Iraqi, met the protesting students and announced the formation of a high-powered committee to investigate the incident.

Meanwhile, Governor Sindh, Kamran Khan Tessori, took notice of the incident and expressed deep sorrow over the student’s death. He extended condolences to the bereaved family and directed the university administration and police to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the matter.
Governor Tessori also instructed the Vice Chancellor to take effective and immediate measures to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
