The interior minister during the conversation said that granting special powers to the Federal Investigation Agency is only aimed at charging it with the responsibility to probe crimes of international or interprovincial nature, which do not fall under the jurisdiction of provincial police.

Nisar said the government respects provincial autonomy and no province should have reservations regarding this.
He further clarified that empowering FIA under the Protection of Pakistan Ordinance (PPO) is not meant for Sindh alone.
Earlier on June 28, the government had authorized the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to keep the suspects under custody for as long as 90 days, by amending the PPO.
