BEIJING: China is set to build its first vertical forests, with the city of Nanjing to become the home to two towers which will help convert C02 to Oxygen and promote life.

Architectural firm Stefano Boeri has announced it will be designing two such ‘vertical forests’, to be completed in 2018.

Standing at  656 feet and 354 feet tall respectively, the towers will rise above the Nanjing Pukou District.

The towers are named ‘Bosco Verticale’.

But it’s not all about how it looks: The Nanjing Towers will absorb enough carbon dioxide to make around 132 pounds (60 kilograms) of oxygen every day, an official press release claimed. China’s Vertical Forest is scheduled to be completed sometime next year.

C POST 6

It’ll be the third city to get a Vertical Forest, following ones built in Milan, Italy and Lausanne, Switzerland.

The towers will stand at 354 and 656 feet tall, respectively (that’s 107 and 199 metres), reports Italian publication Living. The shorter tower will house a hotel, while the taller one will be home to a museum, offices and an architecture school.

C POST 3

The spaces will include retail, hotel accommodation, and even a school for architects.

More importantly, they will house over 1,000 trees and approximately 2,500 shrubs from 23 different local species.

C POST 5

The buildings are expected to produce 60 kg of Oxygen per day.

China’s cities have some of the worst air pollution in the world, so the trees will be a welcome resource as well as an exercise in biodiversity.

C POST 4

Stefano Boeri has previously constructed ‘vertical forests’ in Milan, Italy, completed in 2014.
