Massive financial irregularities in LESCO; NAB summons 3-year record

LAHORE: The irregularities worth millions of rupees were surfaced in the development projects of Lahore Electric Supply Company Limited (LESCO) and to further push the probe, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has summoned the records of past three years from the entity. 

According to details, the anti-graft watchdog has been investigating the alleged monetary embezzlement in the development projects of LESCO.

Following the report of irregularities, the NAB officials have summoned all development officers of LESCO to appear next week along the records of previous three years.

The NAB officials have asked for the contract details of all development projects and the specifics of their rules and regulations. The LESCO is further instructed to submit details of receiving of payments during the projects.

The Bureau had earlier directed the electricity supplying company to submit all records by October 19, but LESCO officials requested for extra time.

Recently, NAB Chairman Justice (R) Javed Iqbal has said that anti-graft agency is committed to make Pakistan a corruption-free state.

Justice (R) Javed Iqbal said that following the efforts of the NAB, Pakistan’s ranking has gone up to 116 from 175 on the index of corruption-free states. He said, “Pakistan is a role model for the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries because of achieving great success against white-collar crimes and corruption.”

The NAB chairman reiterated his resolve to carry on indiscriminate operation against the plunderers of national wealth and the corrupt.
