In her complaint, Menon said that she had tweeted to the Mumbai Police Commissioner about Bhattacharya’s use of “obscene” language on social media towards a woman journalist.
The trouble had started after Ms Swati Chaturvedi and jantakareporter.com’s editor-in-chief, Rifat Jawaid objected against a post of the singer regarding the murder of an Infosys techie in Chennai. In his post, Abhijeet had tweeted saying the murder was a result of love jihad,
Ms Chaturvedi responded that the alleged murderer was a man called Ramkumar and he has been arrested. She further said:.
Journalist Swati Chaturvedi had responded to Abhijeet ranting tweet on Pakistan and said: “Abhijeet is jealous of Pakistani singers who took his mediocre career! Even tried to incite SS against them!.”
This drew obscene tweets from singer who foul-mouthed at the journalist, drawing backlash from other tweeps.
A case has been registered under IPC section 500 (punishment for defamation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of Indian Penal Code.
The singer had recently sparked controversy by tweeting that the murder of an Infosys techie in Chennai was the result of “love jihad”. However, when a Delhi-based journalist objected to his tweet, the singer had allegedly replied with abusive comments.
