KARACHI: At least one person died and two others were wounded when fire broke out in a cosmetic factory on Wednesday morning near Nursery on Shahrah-e-Faisal, ARY News reported.
According to rescue sources, the fire broke out in the building located near Nursery bus stop on one of the city’s main thoroughfares following an explosion that resulted in the death of a person and injuries to two others.
The dead and injured were shifted to a nearby hospital, they said.
Three fire engines doused the raging blaze after hectic efforts that lasted more than two hours, rescue officials said, adding that they are yet to determine the exact cause of the fire and explosion.
This is the second factory fire incident in the city in less than a month as earlier on Aug 31 at least five people including three firefighters had suffered injuries after fire erupted at a factory in SITE area. A portion of the factory had collapsed due to the fire.
The factory administration had alleged that some employees had deliberately set it on fire following a row over non-payment of salaries to them ahead of Eid-ul-Azha holidays.
Karachi, one of the largest cities of the world, faces shortage of funds and investment in the city’s infrastructure, governance and emergency services resulting devastating impact on the lives of the citizens.
