MALANKAND: At least one person was killed while five other reportedly injured when Levies forces resort to firing to disperse protesters who barged into WAPDA office in Dargai area on Monday against prolonged power outages in the area, ARY News reported.

According to our reporter, at least two people were critically injured as result of firing by the paramilitary force. One of the critical injured succumbed to the injuries during medical treatment. The deceased was identified as Javed.

Thousands of enraged protesters stormed the office after breaking main gate and set the record on fire, PESCO sources said while claiming that the electric pylons were being erected to restore electricity in the affected areas.

The protesters have allegedly taken the dead body of the deceased and placed the coffin on main road to intensify their protest against WAPDA. The protesters chanted slogans against the federal government over the outages. Local authorities have called in security forces to control the situation in the area.

It is worth mentioning here that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) workers took to roads on Saturday by demonstrating annoyance over extended hours of power load-shedding in the province.

PTI lawmaker for provincial assembly Fazal Elahi led the protest.

Fazal along with scores of furious party workers – holding sticks in their hands –  barged into 132 kv Rehman Baba Grid Station. The party workers were heard chanting ‘Go Nawaz Go’ slogans.

In the wake of recent violent power protests, police personnel were deployed outside the provincial grid stations but despite their presence, the protesters entered in the premises of grid station.

The protesters complained that the government was receiving taxes from the people but in return not providing basic facilities to them.
