Five new oil and gas discoveries made in Sindh: petroleum minister

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Monday said five new oil and gas discoveries have been made in Sindh.

“These discoveries will lead to addition of 600 barrels a day of oil and 70 million cubic feet of gas,” he said while addressing a news conference in this regard in Islamabad.

He said there had been 98 oil and gas discoveries during tenure of the present government and so far 944 million cubic feet of gas had been added to the system.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said addition of 70 million cubic feet of gas a day meant a saving of 150 million dollar a year in the import of LNG.

The minister for petroleum and natural resources emphatically stated that the present government was strictly abiding by the constitutional provisions in distribution of gas.

He said that in 2010 Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited was getting 1,665 cubic feet of gas a day which had come down to 1,120 cubic feet this year, representing 35% decrease.

As against this, gas in the system of Sui Southern Gas Pipelines Limited which was 1,174 cubic feet in 2010 has increased to 1,207 cubic feet this year, registering three percent hike.
