LAHORE: A fire broke out at a bakery in Lahore’s Barkat Market on Tuesday morning, killing at least five people, ARY News reported.
Rescue sources said five people died of inhaling toxic smoke after the fire erupted in the bakery located in Barkat Market, Garden Town.
After being informed of the blaze, rescue teams, firefighters and area police reached the spot immediately and began operation to douse the flames.
A rescue official said as per initial investigation a short circuit caused the fire. However, the exact cause would be determined later on.
Those killed in the blaze have been identified as Shakeel, 15, Talib 30, Shahbaz 25, and Shahid, 40. The identity of the fifth deceased couldn’t be ascertained immediately.
In March, at least four people, two children among them, were burnt to death after a fire broke out in a servant quarter in Lahore’s Wapda Town.
