Five things to expect from SteamWorld Dig 2 releasing on PS4

SteamWorld Dig 2, the fourth installment in the SteamWorld series of games and the direct sequel to 2013’s SteamWorld Dig, will be digitally released on September 26.

Julius Guldbog, Community Manager at developer and publisher Image & Form Games confirmed the announcement in blog post that the game will be released later this month on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita and will be cross-buy on both consoles.

SteamWorld Dig 2 revolves around mining just its predecessor, but what’s new this time around?

Guldbog listed five of the most exciting ones although there are still a ton of new surprises.

1. A new protagonist

Rusty, a steam-powered robot who is equipped with a pickaxe, had disappeared and is replaced with Dorothy McCrank.

“She’s gone from a sidelined sidekick in the original SteamWorld Dig to an awesome hero able to save the day,” said Guldog.

Now it is up to Dorothy to accept the challenge and embark on an epic underground adventure.

Dorothy also uses a pickaxe to create paths through an underground world by mining cubes of ground away. Players will also fight enemy creatures that come on their path.

2. New companions

Players won’t dig into adventure on their own this time. The game is host to a wonderful cast of characters with their own personalities, quirks and purposes.

Some will help players more actively on their journey, while some will do their best to get in the way. However, players will have to figure out exactly who these people are on their own.

3. New upgrades

Guldog said the upgrades played a big role in the original version. However, this time they’re bigger, better and will take players to places they’ve never been before.

“Besides carving your way through the earth with your trusty pickaxe, you will literally fly through caves with the Jet Engine and grab faraway treasure with the new Hookshot,” he wrote telling players to expect even more awesome gear as the game progresses.

4. A big, sprawling world to explore

SteamWorld Dig 2 is huge and full of treasure, traps and dangers. It will also be a much longer experience than the short and sweet original.

Players can expect at least ten hours of game play time, and even more if they plan to explore every corner of the world.

5. A new musical backdrop

The game’s soundtrack is being composed by El Huervo of Hotline Miami fame.

Guldog said that it has got new vibe compared to previous SteamWorld soundtracks and think that payers will like it.
