Flight that takes off in 2018 and lands in 2017

With fake news being named ‘word of the year in 2017’ and intense use of this phrase in the outgone year, and as we entered the 2018 – a Hawaiian Airlines flight reminds us that time is also fake.

The flight, HA446, left Auckland, New Zealand at 12:05 am, January 1st, 2018, and landed in Honolulu, Hawaii at 9:45 am on December 31st, 2017. The incredible time traveling flight was pointed out by the flight tracking website Flightradar24’s Twitter account.

The plane is flying to Honolulu, which is 23 hours behind Auckland. Because of this, it arrived at 10.16am local time – on December 31, 2017.

This fun and unsettling fact was tweeted out by ABC7’s transportation reporter Sam Sweeney, and people’s minds were sufficiently blown.

In any case, the passengers and crew on the flight will have the rare experience of celebrating New Year’s Eve twice in one day.
