ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi will depart for the Afghan capital Kabul on Sept 15 on a peace mission, ARY News reported.

This will be the foreign minister’s first official visit to any country since he assumed office of the chief diplomat of Pakistan on Aug 20.

Sources within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs say Mr Qureshi will be visiting the neighbouring country at the invitation of his Afghan counterpart.

During his stay in Kabul, he will hold a meeting with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and would also invite him on behalf of Prime Minister Imran Khan to visit Pakistan.

Sources say Qureshi will emphasize the need to find a solution to the Afghan conflict through dialogue and will also make an offer to Kabul for the peace process.

Meanwhile, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu will arrive in Islamabad on an official visit on Sept 14. He will hold separate meetings with President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The visiting minister will also convey a special message of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Pakistani leadership, according to sources.
