KARACHI: Syed Ali Raza Abidi, who parted ways with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P) in the wake of its alliance with the Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP), resigned from his National Assembly seat on Monday.

The former MQM-P leader posted his resignation on his Twitter account on Monday morning, in which he said he was resigning due to political and personal reasons.

Last week, the MQM-P and PSP formed an alliance to contest the 2018 general elections under one party, one name and one symbol, which broke up within 24 hours with the leaders of the two parties heaping scorn on each other.

Following the alliance, Abidi had announced on the social networking site to quit the party as well as resign from parliament. His tweet read:“Ladies n[and] Gentlemen from the Holy land of Karbala, I announce to quit MQMP n[and] resign from NA251 as this is not what I believed in n[and] stood for.”

On Wednesday, leaders of the MQM-P and PSP created an alliance on a day and broke it up on the next day.
