Fourth Ashes Test: England at 226/6 on 1st day

MELBOURNE: England were at 226/6 at stumps on the first day of the fourth Ashes test match here at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Thursday, ARY News reports.
Australia won the toss and invited England to bat first in the match.
England lost their Captain Alastair Cook with 48 runs on the board. Cook scored 27 runs for the team.
Michael Carberry made 38 runs. Joe Root also could not stick long at the crease and was back in the pavilion after scoring 24 runs. Kevin Pieterson's 67 runs helped the visitors to get past 200 runs.
In the Australian bowling department, pacers Ryan Harris and Mitchell Johnson grabbed two wickets.
Record 90,000 fans had turned up in the stadium to watch the first day.
