Geo TV fraudulently registered Pakistan Idol trademark

KARACHI: A private company has filed a petition against Mir Shakeel ur Rahman of Geo TV, Independent Media Corporation and others in the Sindh High Court (SHC), while the court has ordered to seal the records of the trade mark registry – ARY News reports.

According to details, the court bailiff sealed the material of the trade mark registry related to the trademark of the private company.

Advocate Anwer Maqsood Khan filed the petition in the SHC on behalf of a private company in which Mir Shakeel ur Rahman of Geo TV, Independent Media Corporation, DG IPO and Registrar IPO have been nominated as the parties in the case.

The petition mentioned that Independent Media Corporation and Geo TV Network are using the trademark of the company illegally regarding its program Pakistan Idol.

The petitioner demanded strict action against and a sum of 5 billion rupees was also requested to be paid by the parties at the cost of losses made to the private company for using its trademark.

Senior anchorperson of ARY News, Mubashir Lucman has said that according to the private company Geo TV Network committed an offence by registering the trademark of Pakistan Idol some 5 years ago through counterfeiting.

He added that alternating the judicial matters is surely an offensive act.
