Ex-president Bush struggles with rain poncho at Trump inauguration

Donald Trump officially became the 45th President of the United States on January 20 in a fancy inauguration ceremony.

The guests who were lucky enough to score a seat on the main stage for got a bit of an unwelcome surprise when it began to shower during his remarks.

The rain sent the expensively-attired members of the political elite rushing for their umbrella and ponchos hoping to remain dry.

Select guests, including Michelle Obama and Melania Trump, were given clear plastic umbrellas at their seat in case of inclement weather.

The three former presidents in attendance – Jimmy Carter, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton – were only given ponchos for themselves and their wives.

Hillary Clinton was forced to rely on her husband Bill who crafted a makeshift bonnet out of a plastic poncho to cover his wife’s hair.

However, George W. Bush was photographed in what appeared to be an epic struggle with his rain gear.

The former president seemed uncertain as to whether or not he wanted to keep his head or suit dry, a choice forced upon all guests it seems as they were each given just one poncho.

At first, Bush covered his suit with his poncho but then decided to cover his head instead with the plastic protective wear.

At one point, the entire upper half of Bush’s body disappeared behind the plastic making it impossible for him to see what was happening at the ceremony.

When he then eventually removed the poncho, Bush had a large grin on his face.

The public was also being pelted with rain as they assembled on the Washington Mall for the ceremony, but many did not seem to mind.
