Seven people including Norwegian ambassador Leif H. Larsen, Philippines ambassador Domingo D. Lucenario Jr, wives of Indonesian and Malaysian ambassadors Heri Listyawati Burhan Muhammad and Datin Habibah Mahmud, the two pilots Shaheed Major Altamash and Shaheed Major Faisal and technician Zakir were killed when a Mi-17 helicopter of Pakistan Army crashed in Gilgit’s Naltar area.
Sohail Aman, speaking to media on Saturday, said that the chopper was on a normal flight routine when it crashed.
He also said that the pilots were expert pilots. He added that they did everything they could do save the helicopter from crashing.
“Surviving the helicopter crash was nothing short of a miracle”, the air chief said.
“The whole world has expressed solidarity over the incident”, he said.
The air vice marshal stated that the base commander was watching the landing of the helicopter. He added that the cause of the crash will be known after its investigation.
