Government striving to make Pakistan a tolerant society: Abbasi

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Friday said that the government is striving to make Pakistan a tolerant society where basic rights of every citizens are protected.

In his message on the occasion of “Minorities Day” being observed today (August 11), he said, “We will make Pakistan a tolerant society where basic rights of every citizen are protected and all Pakistanis, Muslims or non-Muslims work collectively for progress and prosperity of the country.”

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister assured that the government will fulfill the promise made to minorities by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He lauded the minorities’ contributions in social sector in general and health sector in particular.

He said all citizens are equal and rights would be ensured to all citizens irrespective of their religion, caste and creed.

He said the government had taken a number of steps for the welfare of minorities by allocating five percent quota in jobs besides allocating seats in the Senate, National Assembly and Provincial Assemblies according to their population ratio.
