ISLAMABAD: Senior Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Aitzaz Ahsan on Tuesday alleged that the government was trying to sideline Justice Qazi Faez Isa for his inquiry commission report into the August 8 carnage in Quetta.

Expressing his views in ARY News programme ‘Off the Record’ yesterday, he said that Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar was in trouble after the emergence of the commission’s report and so the government was conspiring against Justice Isa.

“The government is trying to make Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Justice Sajjad Ali,” said Ahsan during the show.

The PPP leader said that Chaudhry Nisar did the press conference according to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s will while reacting to the Quetta Commission Report.

Ahsan stressed that the interior minister’s presser was nothing but an attempt of the government to make Justice Isa alone.

Justice Qazi Isa’s report that surfaced last Friday criticised the role of the interior ministry, saying the ministry was working without a clear leadership and vision.

The report regretted that Interior Minister Nisar on October 21 met Maulana Mohammad Ahmed Ludhianvi, the head of three banned organisations — Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan, Millat-i-Islamia and Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat — to listen to his demands and conceded to them as per the media reports.

Reacting to the report, the Interior Minister had said that the inquiry report on the incident was one-sided and without the point of view of the interior ministry.

At least 74 people were killed and hundreds wounded in a suicide bombing on August 8 at the emergency ward of Quetta’s Civil Hospital, where people mostly lawyers had gathered to mourn the death of Balochistan Bar Association president Bilal Anwar Kasi in a gun attack earlier during the day.

A one-member inquiry commission comprising of Justice Qazi Faez Isa of the Supreme Court investigated the incident after the top court took suo moto notice.
