Secretary Aviation Irfan Ilahi told today that Rs 100 billion have been allocated for Pakistan Airways.

“The new airline will be an autonomous body which will have no concern with Pakistan International Airlines (PIA),” he said.

“However, jets may be acquired from PIA, while PIA staffers may also apply for jobs in new airline.”

On the other hand, Chairman of the Privatization Commission, Muhammad Zubair told a Senate committee that 26 percent shares of the PIA are being sold, while its management will also be handed over to the party purchasing the shares.

He added that a condition might be set not to fire employees for as long as two years.
