Govt delays hike in PoL prices: Firdous Ashiq Awan

ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Tuesday said Prime Minister Imran Khan has summoned another meeting to review OGRA recommendations regarding increase in petroleum prices for the month of May.

This she stated while addressing a press conference along with Federal Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawa at the PID, after conclusion of the federal cabinet meeting.

The cabinet along with the petroleum prices matter discussed 13 other important issues in today’s meeting.

“Most of the cabinet members showed their concern over OGRA recommendations to jack-up PoL prices”, she said.

SAPM Firdous Ashiq Awan said the ministers were in view that increase just before the commencement of Holy month of Ramzan will further increase inflation in the country.

“Realizing problems being faced by the people, the prime minister decided to call on another meeting to review the recommendations.”

Prime minister advised concerned authorities to ensure prices of the commodities during Ramzan.

Detailing further, she said the cabinet decided to reschedule office timings from 10 in the morning to 4pm during Holy Month of Ramzan.

Commenting on the recent PM Khan’s visit to China, she said the cabinet felicitated the premier on a successful visit and termed the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between both the countries a milestone.

The cabinet was also taken into confidence over the China’s visit of the premier.

Awan said the government has decided to introduce bills of Enforcement of Women Property Protection and Judicial Reforms.

Beside that a bill to declare torture by a teacher on student, a crime, and a bill against sexual harassment of children will also be tabled in the National Assembly.

She said government has firm believe that increase in tourism activities in the country will ultimately increase employment opportunity and will also help in portraying positive image of Pakistan.

Commenting on Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM), Firdous Ashiq Awan said not the every tribal men is agreeing with the ideology of PTM, some anti-Pakistan elements have took over the party.

“Such elements will be dealt with an iron hand”, she continued.

She added that PTM is taking directions from India.

“The government and the armed forces are on the same page in this context”, she maintained.

On the occasion, Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda said the government has decided to build Mohmand Dam and in this regard  prime minister will lay a foundation stone on May 2.

He added that former chief justice Saqib Nisar has been also invited to attend the ceremony.

“The dam construction is 54 years old project, even before of my birth”. he added and said that PTI government will complete this project.
