Govt fails to produce Missing Persons in court

ISLAMABAD: The government failed to produce 33 missing persons before the court during the hearing of the missing persons case in Supreme Court here on Wednesday, ARY News reports. 

A three-judge bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Jawwad S Khawaja during the hearing disallowed the defence ministry to present its stance. 

Attorney General Salman Aslam argued before the court that the matter not belongs to the centre but to the province. Justice Jawad said, "Submit in writing that fundamental rights are not the responsibility of the prime minister," Justice Jawwad remarked. 

The court is likely to issue contempt notices to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the governor and chief minister of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa over non-compliance of the court ruling in missing persons case. 

A three-judge bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Jawwad S Khawaja on Tuesday expressed resentment over non-production of 33 missing persons before the court. 

The bench while started writing the order of issuing a show-cause notice to the prime minister, chief minister K-P and the governor, Attorney General of Pakistan Salman Aslam sought a short adjournment, pleading with the court to give some time and promised progress in the matter. 

Justice Khawaja accepted the request and postponed the hearing till Wednesday (today). The learned justice however warned that the court will issue contempt notice to the Prime Minister of Pakistan if no progress reported in the matter.
