Govt introduces 28th Constitutional Amendment in NA


ISLAMABAD: The drafts of 28th Constitutional Amendment Bill 2017 and amendment in Pakistan Army Act 1956 were introduced in the National Assembly on Friday, ARY News reported.

Federal Minister for Law and Justice Zahid Hamid tabled the bill in lower house.

The  bill states that extraordinary situation and events in the country demand immediate steps for eliminating terrorism.

The bill recommends extension of military courts for upto two years. The cases — being heard in the military courts — will be shifted to Anti Terrorism Courts after the time period comes to an end.

The suspects accused of attacking civilians, government and security personnel and military installations will be tried in the military courts.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), a major opposition party in the parliament, has rejected the bill.

Law Minister Zahid Hamid while introducing the bills said that it is utmost necessary to have military courts given the surge of terror incidents in the country.
