Harvard University secures berth as the world's top university

Harvard University retained its stellar reputation as the best university in the world, when the Center For World University Rankings released a list of top 10 universities in the world, in which Harvard University came out on top.  Stanford University came in as the second-best university, closely followed by MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) in the third place.

The criteria for ranking the prestigious universities across the world are judged across eight measures. These also include the number of research papers from the universities’ students appearing in worthy and renowned journals. Also, the proportion of alumni who secured awards internationally and attained prestigious jobs such as the CEO of international organizations, also mattered when it came to ranking.

One look at the list and it is apparent that out of the top ten, eight are American universities. The other two universities from the list, namely Oxford University and the University of Cambridge, both belong to United Kingdom. The inclusion of Cornell at the bottom of the list (no. 10) comes at the price of Yale, which was previously at number 10 in the list.

Center For World University Rankings claim that their rankings are the only ones not based on surveys or the universities’ own data submissions.
