Have defended Asim in the past and will continue to do so: Zardari

In an interview, the PPP leader said that Dr Asim had no reason to allow terrorists to seek medical treatment in his hospitals. Zardari also said he was ready to take guarantee on behalf of Asim that he was innocent and that Pakistan Peoples Party would also continue to defend him. He also voiced his opinion that Dr Asim was not his frontman.
“Asim is my childhood friend but basically, he is my family doctor,” he said.

Asif Zardari also said he had never tried to derail democracy and that Uzair Baloch had been arrested eight or nine months earlier. He categorically denied any affiliation with the Lyari gang-war leader and said that PPP also didn’t have any relation with Uzair Baloch.
“Uzair absconded during our tenure, since we issued his red warrants,” he said.

In response to a question, Asif Zardari said that he would work with PTI chief Imran Khan when he became a politician. “We have worked with every political force except for Imran Khan. During the sit-in protests, we refused to side with Imran because that would have derailed democracy,” he said.

Regarding the leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party, Asif Ali Zardari said that there should be no confusion regarding the matter and that Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari was in control of the party.
“Very soon he will hold a Jalsa (political gathering) in South Punjab,” disclosed Zardari.

During the interview, Asif Zardari also stated that he was abroad for medical reasons and that he would very soon come back to Pakistan. Zardari also said he had to deal with a lot of health problems as well as old age, hence he needed medical treatment.
“Do I want to be buried in New York?”, he asked rhetorically in response to a question if he would return to Pakistan or not.

Zardari also pointed out that his political career spanned more than twenty years out which he had spent twelve-and-a-half years in prison. He even showed the bruise on his tongue, which he claimed had been inflicted while he had been imprisoned and said he had forgiven his enemies.

He also belittled terrorists belonging to the militant outfit Daesh and said they were afraid of the ideology that PPP had. Zardari said there was no party in Pakistan that had lost as many workers and supporters to militants as the Pakistan Peoples Party had.
“I lost my wife to terrorism,” said Asif Zardari.

During the course of the interview, he also spoke of how the PPP had installed plants in Thar which were providing clean water filtered with the reverse osmosis technique.
