Herath guides Sri Lanka to victory vs Zimbabwe  in 2nd Test

HARARE: Spinner Rangana Herath thrived as Sri Lanka’s stand-in captain, taking 8-63 to seal a 257-run win over Zimbabwe in the second Test on Thursday with a 2-0 series sweep.

Herath finished with 13 wickets in the match after replacing regular skipper Angelo Mathews as the Sri Lankan captain for this tour.

Continuing on 180-7 and still needing 311 runs to win, Zimbabwe didn’t last long on the final day of the series, just 13 overs, with Herath taking all three wickets.

Herath had Craig Ervine caught for 72 to get rid of the home team’s last established batsman.

Zimbabwe folded for 233 to give Sri Lanka a 257-run win. Herath celebrated a 2-0 series win with a ten-wicket haul. His match-figures of 13 for 152, his sixth ten-for in Tests, took his series tally to 19 wickets.

This was Sri Lanka’s fifth successive Test win – they swept Australia 3-0 at home prior to this series – to equal their second-longest winning streak in Tests. Their longest is nine, which they achieved in 2000-2001.
