After going through a lot of hurdles, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus “Padmaavat” was finally released on January 25 and is still witnessing packed theaters in India and Pakistan.

Performances of lead actors of the movie, Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, have been immensely lauded but yes, questions arose about Shahid Kapoor’s acceptance of a “less-important” role in the movie.

But Shahid Kapoor has finally spoken about it.

According to Indian media, a reporter asked the “Haider” star if he ever felt insecure on sets and why he opted to play Ratan Singh and not Khilji in the film.

“I am the hero of a Bhansali film. The numbers are going nuts. All is good. Rest is history. One line here, one article there, someone’s making an opinion, someone’s biting into your insecurity is not going to draw you back,” Shahid replied.

Speaking on the importance of the film for him, he said, “10 years down the line, when I have a library of films having my films worth sharing with my family, my children, Padmaavat will be there.”

He said the role he had played of Rawal Ratan was performed for the viewers only. Rawal Ratan was an unsung hero of Chittor’s dynasty and he wanted people to know about his sacrifice, how he diligently fought an army ten times bigger than his own, and how he even lost his life in a bid to save his better half.

To a query, Shahid Kapoor called his acting opposite to Ranveer as a smart choice.

“Who says that an actor can’t do two-hero film? You are asking the wrong person because I did it. Actors on Padmaavat did it. I think smart choices make a great career.”

Earlier, the flamboyant actor said who would not want to play Alauddin Khilji’s role in a Bhansali’s movie. “If I had got a chance, I would have played it better than Ranveer Singh.”

This statement did not go well with some critics and it was after this statement that they opined that Shahid felt insecure from Ranveer’s performance.
