QUETTA: In what appears to be an attempt on the part of the Quetta police to save a member of the Balochistan Assembly from criminal proceedings in a hit-and-run case, the police have registered the case against unidentified persons.

Traffic sergeant Attaullah Dasti, 42, was killed at GPO Chowk when he was run over by a vehicle which the police had claimed earlier was being driven by lawmaker Majeed Achakzai, who is also the chairman of the provincial assembly’s public accounts committee.

The legislator seemed to have used his influence to escape the criminal charges since the police has lodged an FIR against unknown persons despite having earlier claimed that Majeed was driving the vehicle.

According to media reports, SSP Nazeer Kurd said, “Majeed Achakzai was driving the vehicle himself and we are investigating the incident.”

Majeed Achkzai is also a close relative of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai.
